I’m not kidding as I sit writing this in my hammock overlooking our organic gardens, our farm manager and tomato farmer (among many other talents) Kari Tomashik walked up with baskets and began harvesting this year’s lavender crop. Soon my kids joined in and, well, so much for my writing hideaway. I’m going to get my camera!
So back to the preserve. These blueberries come from the farm of John VanVoorhees and Joan Donaldson, two off-the-grid farmers that when I met them many years ago they were in their 17th year of organic blueberry farming. We combine those with lavender flowers from our gardens and… well you’ve just got to taste it to believe it. For me, I just open it and smell it like a fine glass of wine long before it ever touches my lips. We also use John and Joan blueberries for our Fruit Juice Sweetened Mixed Berry Preserves.
